If you have a question about this web site, or about rebates or the rebates business, you might find an answer here, in the Frequently Asked Questions file.
What is Rebate Report Card all about?
The main things this web site provides is ratings (or grades) for
companies that offer rebates on consumer products. The web site
also provides other information and news related to the rebate
business, but the main thing is the rating system.
Where do the rebate ratings come from?
Visitors to this web site (like yourself) can submit rating reports to let other consumers know which companies are lousy at honoring their rebate offers and which ones can be trusted. The page for
submitting rebate reports is listed in the main menu along the
left side of each page in the web site (hopefully including the
one you're looking at right now).
Why have a rebate rating system?
If you've been living in a cave for the past 50 years,
you might not have noticed that most mail-in rebates sound great
when you're making your purchase, but then take many months to
collect. In fact, a ridiculous percentage of them are never
honored at all. The customer never gets the cash. The company
expects that a certain percentage of customers will never
send in the rebate claim, others will forget to follow up, others
will follow-up then get frustrated and give up, and only a select
few actually get the cash they deserve. It's sad, but true.
Isn't anything being done about mail-in rebate problems?
There are some legislators who care about consumer rights and who
are trying to fix these problems. But, it's a difficult battle.
Maybe we'll see some real progress someday. Until then, consumers
need a way to judge for themselves just how much those rebates
are really worth. And that's where Rebate Report Card comes in.
